Frequently Asked Questions About Equine Joint Health

What do you give a horse for their joints?

While NSAIDs are an option to help your horse with painful joints, the best way to help soothe and maintain your horse’s joints over time is to give them a joint supplement, like TRI-ACTA. Available in two formulas, regular strength (TRI-ACTA for Equine) and extra strength (TRI-ACTA H.A. for Equine) Integricare offers the perfect joint supplement for your horse.

If you notice minor signs of decreased mobility or your horse is perfectly healthy, then our regular strength TRI-ACTA product is perfect for your horse.

If your horse is currently suffering from a painful joint condition or has recently recovered from one, then our TRI-ACTA H.A. product is the best choice for your horse.

When should you start a horse on joint supplements?

You might think that joint supplements are only necessary when a horse is competing or training, but they can be given to your horse daily. TRI-ACTA will deliver consistent, positive results when used on a regular, continuous basis.

As our label indicates, we recommend giving your horse one daily serving of TRI-ACTA after completion of the initial 10-day loading dose period. Bio-accumulation will occur with daily, continuous use of TRI-ACTA, providing consistent joint and mobility support for your equine partner.

What should I look for in a horse joint supplement?

When you’re looking at horse joint supplements, the first thing you should do is take a look at the supplement label. If the product has fillers or synthetic chemicals making up most of the product, then you’re not getting the optimal therapeutic benefits from each dose. It’s best to stick with a supplement that has little or no fillers, like TRI-ACTA for Equine.

Secondly, you should consider whether the ingredients in the supplement are backed by scientific research. All the ingredients in TRI-ACTA products are supported by independent scientific studies. The merits of these components can be found through peer-reviewed journals and are widely considered to be safe for the treatment of osteoarthritis. Additionally, our product was identified as a ‘superior-quality’ in an independent study published in the Equine Veterinary Journal for its purity and integrity that matches its label claims.

Why is TRI-ACTA more effective than using pure Glucosamine or MSM?

Scientific studies consistently indicate that utilizing a blended formula of complimentary ingredients provides a significant advantage in supporting joint health and mobility over individual ingredients alone. With TRI-ACTA products, your horse receives a daily therapeutic dose of two types of glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, and hyaluronic acid. Specifically formulated to work together, TRI-ACTA’s blended formula addresses joint health and mobility from all angles to deliver better results than single components alone.

My horse is a picky eater. Is TRI-ACTA palatable to horses?

Yes. Because TRI-ACTA’s daily serving size is so small compared to other supplements, your horse won’t notice when you include TRI-ACTA in their daily grain. TRI-ACTA contains no filler or artificial flavouring which can be attributed to the small serving size. At just 20-22g per daily serving, your horse won’t be able to detect TRI-ACTA when mixed in with grain.

Should I give my horse the suggested loading dose when starting TRI-ACTA?

Yes. As with any supplement, it is essential to follow the label instructions and administer to your horse accordingly. TRI-ACTA’s loading dose is to administer 2 scoops per day for 10 days. By administering the 10-day loading dose, the optimal levels of key ingredients are able to be reached within the equine body more quickly and effectively. When optimal levels of TRI-ACTA ingredients are reached in the body, the bioaccumulation, efficacy, and therapeutic value of the product can be maximized and begin working to restore and maintain your horse’s joint health and mobility.

Why should I switch to TRI-ACTA for Equine?

There are many reasons that TRI-ACTA stands apart and is proven more effective than other joint and mobility supplements on the market. The main advantage to using TRI-ACTA is that our supplements contain no filler. Having no filler in our products allows for a very competitive cost per serving as well as ensures a pure and safe product with no risk of adverse side effects.

TRI-ACTA has a three year shelf life which is a testament to the purity and stability of our product. TRI-ACTA is also the only joint product on the market to use two types of glucosamine for dual benefit*. We also include chondroitin in our supplements, which studies show works synergistically with glucosamine to enhance the efficacy of both ingredients.

TRI-ACTA only includes ingredients that resemble what is naturally produced in the equine body. As such, it is a natural supplement and is highly bioavailable. We also source all our ingredients within Canada at pharmaceutical grade. TRI-ACTA is designated a Veterinary Health Product (VHP) by Health Canada, indicating that it meets health, safety, and quality assurance standards.

How long does it take to see results with horse joint supplements?

Every horse is different. Depending on whether you start your horse on the suggested loading dose or not, you should expect to see positive results within 10-14 days. If you follow the loading dose instructions, you can expect to see positive results at the end of the 10-day loading dose period. Keep in mind that results will vary depending on the age and workload of the horse, as well as if they’re on NSAID medications. The bioavailability of TRI-ACTA may also be compromised if your horse is on omeprazole or another medication that limits the absorption of nutrients via the gut or limits the excretion of stomach acid.

Should I use TRI-ACTA supplements in conjunction with NSAIDs, injectables, or other medications?

Yes, TRI-ACTA supplements can complement the use of other mobility and pain medications. Many of our customers have actually been able to lengthen the period of time in-between administering NSAIDs, injectables and other medications by having their horse on a daily serving of TRI-ACTA. Keep in mind, prolonged administration of NSAIDs suppresses prostaglandin production in the gastrointestinal system and has been linked to the development of gastric ulcers.

Is TRI-ACTA safe for competitions and FEI legal?

Yes, TRI-ACTA and TRI-ACTA H.A. are completely safe and legal for FEI (International Federation for Equestrian Sports) competition. The ingredients and manufacturing processes for TRI-ACTA products abide by all regulatory guidelines as indicated by the FEI. TRI-ACTA and TRI-ACTA H.A. are also designated as a Veterinary Health Product (VHP) by Health Canada. Top-level riders and trainers rely on TRI-ACTA during competition and racing because of the purity of ingredients and stringent quality control measures.
