Glucosamine occurs naturally in the body. It is one of the biological chemicals that form the major cushioning ingredients of the synovial fluid of the joints and surrounding tissues and is used in cartilage formation and repair.
It is a component of the mucopolysaccharides that provides structure to the bone, cartilage, and hoof as well as body tissues.
Through normal wear, cartilage is constantly being broken down and replaced. Glucosamine leads to the synthesis of new cartilage by producing a substance called glycosaminglycans (GAG’s). Glycosaminoglycans in turn, lead to the production of proteoglycans, which are one of the main structures of cartilage. When used as a dietary supplement, it is absorbed daily, and acts as a building block for the molecules that make up cartilage, tendons, ligaments, bone and synovial fluid. Synovial fluid lubricates and nourishes the cartilage cells, helping the cells heal themselves and produce more cartilage cells.
Glucosamine has been shown to be effective in decreasing the pain associated with joint degeneration when taken as a dietary supplement.
Glucosamine Sulphate / Glucosamine Hydrochloride
Integricare Glucosamine uses both the sulphate and hydrochloride forms of glucosamine. Research shows that both forms are extremely effective for joint care. However, both forms have unique advantages.
The hydrochloride form of glucosamine is more concentrated than the sulphate form because it is naturally stable. Glucosamine Sulphate on the other hand, is naturally unstable and requires sodium chloride to stabilize it.
This means a horse would need to consume less HCL for equal amounts of glucosamine to be absorbed. Simply put, because of stability and purity, HCL is more efficient in the sense that it delivers more glucosamine to the body.
However, sulfur is needed by the body to produce cartilage and is an essential nutrient for joint tissue. Glucosamine Sulphate contributes this essential nutrient, while the Hydrochloride form does not.
Integricare Glucosamine is optimally formulated to ensure all the advantages that glucosamine has to offer are available. Integricare formulas are highly absorbable and provide all the essential nutrients for healthy joint function.
